Disperse Dyes
Disperse dyes are non-ionic, water-insoluble dyes specially used for dyeing synthetic fibers, especially polyester. They are applied as a fine dispersion in water rather than a true solution.
Chemical Nature
Mostly:
Azo dyes
Anthraquinone dyes
Non-ionic (no charge)
Very low water solubility
Small molecular size can penetrate synthetic fibers
Fibers Dyed with Disperse Dyes
Suitable Fibers:
Polyester (PET) main application
Nylon (limited use)
Acetate & triacetate
Not Suitable: Cotton, Wool & Silk
1. Textile Industry (Main Application)
Dyeing of:
Polyester fabrics (most important)
Acetate & triacetate fibers
Polyester blends (poly-cotton)
Used in:
Garments (shirts, dresses, sportswear)
Sarees & fashion textiles
Curtains & upholstery
Gives bright and durable colors
2. Sportswear & Performance Fabrics
Used for:
Activewear

High resistance to:
Washing
Sweat
Light
3. Textile Printing
Used in:
Transfer printing (heat transfer)
Screen printing
Design is printed on paper transferred to polyester using heat
4. Thermosol Continuous Dyeing
Industrial process:
Fabric padded with dye
Dried
Heated at 180210C
Used for large-scale production
5. Plastics & Synthetic Materials (Limited)
Sometimes used in:
